Gary Culhane – Limerick Desmond League Premier Division Player of the Year

As the dust has now firmly settled on the 2025/2026 Limerick Desmond Football League season, we want to take this moment to celebrate one of our own.

Huge congratulations to Gary Culhane who picked up the Premier Division Player of the Year award at the end of season awards night held in the Longcourt Hotel earlier in the month.

Gary comes from a proud Glin Rovers family with his brothers and sister all donning the black and red with his father John, a founding member.

Gary has been a mainstay on the Glin Rovers A Team since the 2008/2009 season, a career so far which has seen him win every team trophy on offer at Limerick Desmond Premier Junior Level capped off now by winning the biggest individual award within the Desmond League.

Over the past 18 years Gary has excelled at both centre midfield and centre back for Glin Rovers. A specialist when it comes to penalties and free kicks with countless important goals scored down through the years none more so than the extra time free kick winner against Rathkeale in the League Cup semi-final back in 2023. Gary also has a great knack for reading the game and timing tackles and is rarely beat in a one v one scenario.

Gary was joined on the night by his proud family, wife Sharon, and daughters Molly & Lottie who have all contributed to Gary’s success along with last seasons management team and players.
